Host Event

The Victoria Foundation is looking forward to welcoming our friends and colleagues to #AllIn2019.

A highlight of the gathering will be the Host Event taking place at the Royal British Columbia Museum the evening of Thursday, June 6. Experience the majestic natural beauty, diverse culture and rich history of British Columbia all in one evening. From the replica pit house, to the real ceremonial house of the late Chief Kwakwabalasami, to the detailed masks created by master carvers from several First Nations, you will be enveloped in some of the finest examples of First Nations art and culture in the world in the First Peoples Gallery. In the Becoming B.C. galleries, you will mingle with fur traders and explorers, walk turn-of-the-century streets and explore a replica of North America’s second oldest Chinatown and spend time on a pioneer farm in Northern B.C.

Founded in 1886, the Royal B.C. Museum is one of Canada’s greatest cultural treasures, collecting artifacts, documents and specimens of the province’s natural and human history, safeguarding them for the future and sharing them with the world. It is located at the border between beautiful downtown Victoria and historic James Bay, just steps from the Empress Hotel, the B.C. Legislative Assembly, and Victoria’s Inner Harbour.

Long before colonial settlers arrived in what later became known as British Columbia, the land on which the museum now stands was the traditional territory of the Lekwungen peoples, today represented by the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations.  The Lekwungen comprised a diverse group of extended families who spoke a common dialect of the North Straits Salish language.
