Foundant providing tech solutions that build belongingTuesday, May 2nd, 2017 | Foundant
Who we can look forward to meeting at the “Belong 2017” Conference? Can you tell us a bit about your company?
My name is Daren Nordhagen, the President and co-founder of Foundant Technologies, and I’m thrilled to represent our company at the conference. Foundant is best known for our online grants and scholarship management software solutions that are utilized by more than 1,100 grantmaking organizations, including nearly 150 community foundations, in the US and Canada.
In 2016, we merged with Smalldog Net Solutions to bring their integrated back-office software under our company umbrella. The merger means we’re now able to provide a full technology solution specifically designed for community foundations, including Fund Accounting, Donor Portal, Online Fundraising, and Contact Management in addition to Grants & Scholarships Management.
What does Belonging mean to you?
To me, Belonging means comfortable situations where pieces fit together for the benefit of all. I’m not big on conflict, and I thrive when there’s a sense of belonging – in which everyone understands how they fit into the bigger picture and welcomes the different ways others fit to complement one another. The word Belonging makes me feel harmony.
What are you most excited about for the conference?
I’m excited to talk with foundation leaders about how technology can help them more efficiently and effectively perform amazing work in their communities. The community foundation is the anchor of philanthropy in most communities, and we believe our solutions can help them get the most out of their limited resources. I also love visiting Canada and am excited to visit Ottawa for the first time. I grew up in northern Montana on the border with Saskatchewan, and spent a ton of time in Canada when I was young, so the country holds a special place in my heart.
What other exciting or innovative activities are you presently doing to support your community?
I’m on the board of the Bozeman Area Community Foundation in my local community. We also encourage and incentivize our team members to participate in board and volunteer activities whenever possible. We offer paid time off for volunteer activities and a matching gifts budget for our team members, in addition to direct financial support of many local charities.
Our mission is to maximize the impact of the philanthropic community, and we see supporting community foundations as the next logical progression toward achieving that goal. I’m excited and honoured to be part of Belong 2017, and I’m looking forward to gaining both experiences and relationships in Ottawa this year.
