Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) launches For the Love of Community, a national campaign celebrating the people, places and community foundations turning love of community into action

OTTAWA, ON — October 14, 2026 — At a time of uncertainty, more than 200 community foundations across Canada are coming together around something powerful: For The Love of Community. Reaching more than 90% of Canadian communities, the network holds $9.7 billion in collective assets and grants more than $350 million annually, turning local generosity into lasting impact across the country.

But the power of this network is about more than numbers. It is about what those numbers make possible, and why community foundations exist in the first place.

What does it mean to love the place you call home?

To love the place you call home is to invest in what it needs to thrive. It means supporting the youth program that creates opportunity, the food security initiative that puts meals on tables, the playground that brings neighbours together or the services that help seniors stay connected.

Community foundations turn generosity into this kind of lasting impact, providing resources for locally driven solutions that meet urgent needs today while building capacity for tomorrow. From St. John’s to Iqaluit to Victoria, more than 200 community foundations put that love into action every day.

“Love for community lives in the moments when we show up, give back and choose to build something better together. From coast to coast to coast, community foundations turn that love into possibility. This campaign is an invitation to recognize what we can each contribute to the places we call home.”

Andrea Dicks, President, Community Foundations of Canada

Strong communities are built together

The campaign arrives as communities across Canada navigate rising costs, housing pressures, climate impacts, demographic shifts and broader economic and social uncertainty. These pressures are increasingly being recognized across the sector as significant challenges for communities and the organizations serving them.

Community foundations  have the local relationships to understand emerging needs, the philanthropic infrastructure to mobilize resources and the long-term perspective to invest  in today’s challenges, and in what communities will need years from now.

“Community foundations offer a powerful combination of local knowledge, long-term capital and trusted relationships. Individually, they understand the distinct needs and opportunities of their communities. For the Love of Community is about making that infrastructure more visible and inviting more Canadians, partners and donors to participate in what it makes possible.”

Andrew Chunilall, CEO, Community Foundations of Canada

An open invitation to Canada

Community foundations are built for the long term. Their commitment extends beyond any single issue, funding cycle or moment in time. CFC and its network are inviting Canadians to discover their local community foundation and be part of what comes next, as donors, partners and people invested in the future of their communities.

Because loving your community is powerful. Acting on it is how we build something stronger.
