About Melanie Thomas

A prairie girl with a global outlook, Melanie has an eclectic work background in both the corporate and not-for-profit worlds. She holds a Honours of Business Administration from Ivey Business School and a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Melanie has worked at Bell Canada, developing a new retail channel for small and medium businesses, articled at Goodmans LLP, one of Canada’s top-tier corporate law firms focusing on mergers and acquisitions and was a producer for Saskatchewan’s highest-rated news radio station. Most recently, Melanie worked at Scotiabank, creating and implementing a global compliance testing and controls infrastructure across more than 400 entities worldwide.

In the not-for-profit sector, Melanie was an Executive Director of Ivey’s LEADER Project. The initiative coached entrepreneurs in emerging markets to envision, launch, and/or scale new ventures. Melanie has also been in the courtrooms of Cambodia and the brothels of Mumbai to fight trafficking and exploitation of underage girls with International Justice Mission.

Melanie currently volunteers with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada as a Development Champion, promoting international development around the country and she sits on the Advisory Board of Jubilee Designs, a social enterprise employing homeless and at-risk youth artists. In her spare time, Melanie attempts to surf and salsa dance.
