The practices of reconciliation can build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. How can community foundations move forward towards reconciliation while putting relationships at the centre of their work? During this session, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your responsibilities about reconciliation and to discuss concrete techniques to promote reconciliation. As part of this discussion, Josée Girard, executive director of Philanthropie Lanaudière, will explain how her community foundation worked with diverse Indigenous communities to foster reconciliation. Jennifer Brazeau, executive director of the Centre d’amitié autochtone de Lanaudière, and a member of the Anishinaabe community, will be joining us to describe the social issues faced by Indigenous people in Canada. She will also talk about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and how community foundations can support Indigenous communities within Canada.
