Many community foundations are at the forefront of driving local solutions to the housing crisis in their grantmaking and activity streams. In this session, led by the Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), we will explore how community foundations and endowments can ensure that their investments in residential real estate are aligned with their purpose.
This session wil be led by Tamara Herman, Associate Director Capital Strategies at SHARE. Yulena Wan, Vice-President, Finance & Operations at the Hamilton Community Foundation will then discuss opportunities for community foundations to uphold their values in their housing investments.
In this session, you will:
- Gain a foundational understanding of how institutional investors, such as foundations and endowments, have portfolio exposure to the housing market
- Discuss SHARE’s principles for responsible investment in housing, which provide a roadmap for investors to understand impacts and improve outcomes associated with their investments in entities such as Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and private real estate funds.
This session is available to community foundations within the CFC network.
