Conflict is not only inevitable in high-performing boards, but it is also essential. Healthy conflict enables boards and leadership to grapple with complex decisions, uncover diverse perspectives, and enhance governance. Yet, if not managed well, conflict can become destructive, eroding trust and leading to disengagement for both boards and staff.
This two-hour virtual, highly participative workshop is designed specifically for community foundation leaders and board members. It will create a shared learning experience where both staff and board members are encouraged to attend together, as a team, to ensure alignment and create stronger relationships.
This session is an opportunity to deepen board-management dynamics, increase confidence in navigating conflict, and foster a culture where disagreement leads to growth rather than division. By attending together, boards and leadership teams will gain a common language and approach that strengthens their foundation’s ability to govern with integrity and impact.
Through guided discussion, practical tools, and interactive exercises, participants will:
- Build and strengthen trust between board members, and between the board and executive leadership.
- Clarify governance roles and responsibilities, including where the line lies between the board and management.
- Explore conflict in the boardroom, identifying the difference between constructive conflict that leads to stronger decisions and destructive conflict that undermines effectiveness.
- Learn and practice techniques for conflict resolution.
