The Future of Philanthropy campaign provides insight into emerging trends in philanthropy, including what drives philanthropists of today, the strategies and structures behind their philanthropic activity, the impact on both those that benefit from such activity and on those who give, how philanthropists collaborate, and the role philanthropy plays in bringing communities closer together.

Trust-based philanthropy is being embraced by a growing number of foundations as a way to alleviate power imbalances between funders and grantees while fostering more productive and informative relationships. In this webinar, participants will understand the premise of trust-based philanthropy and hear from community foundations that are embracing trust-based approaches and how these practices align with the organization’s values.

Trust-based philanthropy creates a space to explicitly address the inherent power imbalances between foundations and nonprofits. As community foundations continue to shift power at the local level, trust-based philanthropy has a role to play in adapting our practices and policies.

When it comes to the issues that matter most to Canadians, CFC knows that today and always, one of these issues is anti-racism. This invitation is not meant to be an exclusive guide, toolkit, or one-stop shop for anti-racism materials for community foundations. Rather, this is a space to begin a conversation on the community foundation movement’s shortcomings and to take a pause to reflect on where we need to go.
