About Karen August

As a highly organized professional with 20 years of non-profit leadership experience, Karen brings a unique set of skills to any role she undertakes. Her recent experience in the constituency office of a Federal Cabinet Minister naturally built on her capacity-building role within the not-for-profit sector and her desire to create meaningful change in her community and beyond. She brings a natural enthusiasm and clarity of communication to her work, and as her role with the Honourable Maryam Monsef wound down in 2021, she was fortunate to have an opportunity to apply her skills and energy to a new adventure with The Dennis Group, providing strategic and philanthropic guidance to social profit organizations. She is now thrilled to be part of the team at CFC and immersed again in a networked community.

Karen has extensive managerial experience in the non-profit sector and a record of success in achieving key growth targets, through sound fiscal management and innovative strategic partnerships and initiatives. She led the growth of a small, independent performing arts organization through a stabilization process, and then onto a 10-million-dollar renovation project. This was where she was first introduced to the newly formed Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough, and where the seeds of her commitment to finding creative pathways to inclusivity and equity were sown.

Karen delivers creativity, lateral thinking, and passion to the projects she undertakes. As a strategic thinker and project leader at heart, she’s drawn to growth initiatives that are about community-building in the broadest sense.

Karen considers her culinary endeavours and a love of singing to be her chief artistic outlets, and she undertakes each of them with a refreshing enthusiasm.
