About Mikyas Hailemeskel

Mikyas Hailemeskel brings over 7 years of experience in client services in the private and public sectors. He is a passionate community builder and avid volunteer with over 10 years volunteering experience in mentorship and community programs within the newcomer and neighbourhood community organizations. He is currently completing his final course of his Political Science Honours French Program at the University of Ottawa.

As a bilingual Client Service Agent with the City of Ottawa’s 311 Call Center, he provided information to clients about a wide range of City services, programs, policies, procedures, permits and fee structures. These were in response to inquiries and urgent requests received through a variety of platforms including by phone and email from the public, elected officials, internal staff, and other government agencies.

As an avid volunteer, he mentors young Black men within Ottawa, and has volunteered for various organizations. Namely, Britannia Woods Community House as a mentor, Taggart YMCA/YWCA as a Front Desk Customer Service Agent, the Ottawa Phoenix Playback Theatre, the Community Cup and the Catholic Centre for Immigrants (CCI), and various community/student uplifting events. He has also volunteered as a performer, MC, cultural ambassador and presenter for Black History Month events. His passion for community building and learning stems from school, work and lived experiences.
