Top Resources: Vital Signs

Using local knowledge to measure community vitality and improve quality of life.

Vital Signs is Canada’s most extensive community-driven data program. Spearheaded by Community Foundations of Canada and led by community foundations in Canada and around the world, Vital Signs uses local knowledge to measure the vitality of a community and support action towards improving collective quality of life. Community foundations and community leaders use local data gathered through the program to support evidence-based, locally-relevant solutions to improve the quality of life at the community level.

Vital Signs Guidebook
Community Foundations of Canada has created this Guidebook to meet community foundations where they are at and support them throughout Vital Signs.
Vital Signs and the Sustainable Development Goals
We will discuss our new indicators that align with the goals, as well as strategies to further align your local research and report with the goals. We’ll hear from community foundations who have previously aligned their Vital Signs with the SDGs — how they did it, and what their plans for progression are.
Guidelines for Hosting Vital Conversations (General)
A Vital Conversation is a facilitated conversation with members of your community. Vital Conversations can collect insight and data from the community that can be used to guide future granting priorities, to guide conversations with new donors, or to raise awareness of your community foundation and its leadership.
