As we reflect on 2024, one word rises to the surface: belonging.

In a time when the world can feel increasingly fractured, the work of community foundations reminds us that community is not just a place, it’s a promise. A promise to show up, to listen, and to lead in ways that honour the voices and experiences of those around us.

This year, we saw that promise fulfilled in thousands of ways. Community foundations joined us in activating national and provincial initiatives such as: Vital Signs, the Community Prosperity Fund, Communities for Gender Equality, and many more.

These are more than programs. They’re proof of what’s possible when people come together and when community foundations create space for local leadership to thrive.

We also had the chance to come together in person at the Peer and Regional Gatherings in Winnipeg, Burnaby, Moncton, and Magog. Gathering together gives us space to reconnect, reflect, and imagine what it truly means to lead with belonging. Every time we gather, the energy is undeniable. It reminds us of the power and responsibility we hold as a network, not just to respond to this moment, but to shape what comes next.

As Chair and Past Chair of the Board, we continue to be inspired by the leadership, generosity, and imagination of this network. The community foundation movement has never been more vital or more visionary. In moments of division, we make room for connection. When people feel pushed to the margins, we say clearly and without hesitation: You belong here

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we want to thank the staff, partners, and communities that make this work real. Your dedication moves us forward. Your leadership helps us imagine what’s next.

To every community foundation across this country: thank you. You are the heartbeat of this movement.

With gratitude,

Gordon Holley, Chair

Lisa Kolody, Past Chair
