About Geneviève Vallerand

Geneviève joined Community Foundations of Canada in January 2018 as Director of Communications. She was appointed Vice-President in December 2020. With over 15 years experience in both the public and not-for-profit sectors, her areas of expertise include strategy, marketing communications, stakeholder engagement and program development. At CFC, Geneviève oversees the organization’s Strategic Initiatives. She leads CFC’s team in working with the community foundation network and cross-sector partners to deliver impactful programs ranging from our COVID response initiatives to gender equality and investment readiness programs, among others.  She is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging strategies to build and implement programs, leveraging digital technology and meaningful community engagement to drive positive change. She’s a lateral, inclusive thinker and team player who in her spare time, enjoys geeking out about HBR articles and great podcasts.

Before joining CFC, Geneviève worked in the arts and culture sector as Director, Marketing Communications for the Canada Council for the Arts. At the Canada Council, she led strategic communications to support the organization’s new funding model and advised the executive team responsible for securing a progressive doubling of Council’s funding over 5 years. Geneviève has also served at the Ontario Arts Council, Regroupement Pied Carré, Civic Action and the Committee for Auckland N.Z. Her career has enabled her to live, work and play in several Canadian cities as well as abroad. Not surprisingly, she loves travel, exploring neighbourhoods (and great coffeeshops) as well as meeting new people.

As a volunteer, Geneviève has served on the boards of Spectrum and Hands On Media Education and is currently a member of The Philanthropist’s editorial advisory committee. In her town of Rosemère, QC, she is engaged in regional efforts to conserve Greater Montréal’s former golf courses as green spaces. Gen and her partner Fred are parents to their 18-month old daughter Rose and Hunter, the faithful rescue dog. Free time is most usually spent en famille playing outside outside hiking, snowshoeing or skiing.
