October 3, 2022 – Communities from coast to coast to coast are creating a future where gender equality is no longer a goal, but rather an everyday reality. Today, Community Foundations of Canada (CFC), along with our community foundation partners, are launching the second round of the Fund for Gender Equality (the Fund).

In 2019, CFC became one of the founding partners of the Equality Fund, a groundbreaking collaboration that will deliver new momentum for women’s movements in Canada and around the world. Building on this commitment, CFC and participating community foundations have developed a multi-year collaboration with the Equality Fund, with support from the Government of Canada.

The Fund for Gender Equality is part of the broader Communities for Gender Equality program which supports long term systemic change in four main settings including personal, governance, institutional, and community.

As communities work towards a just recovery during the global pandemic and a future grounded in gender equality, the Fund will support ambitious, local projects that advance gender equality. The Fund will shift power into the hands of women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals by supporting their leadership and engagement in community-level initiatives.

“Around the world including here in Canada, women, girls, gender-diverse and Two-Spirit-led organizations have continued to work towards gender equality and equity while navigating the effects of the pandemic,” said Andrea Dicks, President of Community Foundations of Canada. “Their perseverance has never waivered. They continue to be leaders toward the goal of gender equality, and voices of strength and determination. We are pleased to work alongside community foundations as they support these tenacious organizations to create a brighter future for all.”

The Fund will be hosted by participating community foundations who will make a total of $3.4M available to projects in their communities. The application period will be open from October 3, 2022 until October 31, 2022.
